Which Job Board is Right for You?

The process of searching for a new job is time consuming and tedious. For many, it takes as much time as a full-time job takes. So how do you make the process less complicated and less time consuming? You use the right job board. There are so many places online that you can find job postings that it can be a little difficult to find the right job to apply to.

A quick Google search will yield dozens of sites after entering the type of job you are looking for. How do you know which one to trust? To use? Before you jump into this process, know what to look for in a job board.

Trusted/Popular

Anyone who is searching for a job has heard of CareerBuilder, Monster, and Indeed. While you may get bored of these sites and it may take a while to sift through the job postings, there is a reason these are such popular sites. These large databases of job opening sites allow you to narrow your searches and there are a lot of jobs you can choose from. Whether you are looking to relocate, change careers, or simply find a better paying job, these might be your best option.

Industry Specific

While the “big” job board sites listed above are really helpful, sometimes they are just too much. Finding and using an industry-specific job board can really help you narrow your search results and improve your chances of finding a great job. These niche job boards are individualized to certain industries and, in some cases, certain job positions.

Social

It may seem nontraditional to many job seekers, but companies often post their jobs on social media sites. From visiting LinkedIn career pages to performing twitter searches, this could be a great way to land your next job. While it isn’t necessarily a job board, this option does allow you to find jobs that others may not be seeing. To really get an advantage, follow the brands and companies you want to work for on your favorite social media sites.

Internal

Some companies don’t actually put their job openings on job board sites or even share them over social media channels. Instead, these companies post job openings on their own websites. Often, you can find a career page on a company’s website. From there, you’ll be able to see what jobs they may have open and where those jobs may be located. Doing this eliminates a step in the application process and allows you to apply for a job directly at the source.
